Indications are rife that the National Sports Commission would spend about N3.3 billion for the preparation and participation in the forthcoming All Africa Games due to hold in Maputo, Mozambique.
Minister and Chairman National Sports Commission Professor Taoheed Adedoja said yesterday at the Federal Secretariat that the Commission is making a budget of N3.3 billion to execute the Games that would involve about 780 athletes and officials in 23 sports.
He however explained that the amount would cover the athletes camping, starting February 15 at the designated venues in Lagos, Kaduna, Abuja, Ibadan Shagamu and Ijebu_Ode. Calabar and Asaba would also serve as campsites for the preparation of the athletes before they embark on foreign training tour in the countries yet to be identified.
The NSC boss also stated the National Sports Festival that suffered many postponement owing to political events in the country would also provide the avenue to fine tune the athletes’ preparation for the continental games.
While listing the events to feature that included swimming, Rowing, Yachting and Canoeing among other sports, Adedoja boldly said the least the country would grab in the disciplines would be bronze medal
