LEADERSHIP of the Ondo State House of Assembly yesterday frustrated attempt to have the 10-month old suspension hanging on the former Speaker, Taofiq Olawale Abdusalam and his Deputy, Mr Mayowa Akinfolarin lifted.

This was despite repeated announcements on the State-owned Radio and Television stations that the impeached officers should appear before it yesterday. But to the chagrin of the officers and their aides they met an empty parliamentary session after waiting for over 30 minutes.

Both principal officers were axed by the Labour Party-controlled House of Assembly after they allegedly refused to hand over the Assembly’s property in their custody after they were impeached. The two officers were starved of their salaries and emoluments during the period.

On arrival, the officers, Akinfolarin from Odigbo constituency and Abdusalam from Akoko North West Constituency, walked round the offices and exchanged pleasantries with some civil servants who welcomed them heartily.

They later visited the new offices allocated to them after which they waited at the ante office of the new Speaker Hon Samuel Adesina.

Efforts were made by them o contact the Principal Officers that invited them but all their calls failed to connect.

After an hour of waiting they met with the parliamentary secretary, Hon Pelemo who himself do not know the where about of the other principal officers that the lawmakers decided to the leave the premises of the Assembly in company of their aides.

Speaking with newsmen, the former Speaker Hon Abdusalam said he heard the announcement on the radio and television that they should report at the Assembly yesterday by noon and decided to honour the invitation.

But an aide to one of the principal officer confided with Vanguard that there was a twist in the agreement to reabsorb the two officers and that the principal officers decided to switch off their mobile phone so that they would not be reached.

But he assured that the Lawmakers are still talking and if they jointly agreed without dissenting voice the two officers may be recalled before the end of this week.

The mobile phone of the Speaker Hon Adesina was still switched off as at the time of filling in his report.
