Kwankwaso’s supporters protest plan for guber primaries re-run

KANO—Thousands of former Defense Minister, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’ supporters took to the streets in Kano yesterday over the decision of the National Working Committee of PDP to organised a re-run of the gubernatorial primaries.

The crowd of supporters, made up of both the young and the old trekked over  five kilometres from Ganduje House to the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, press centre carying placards that read: ‘No change in Kano’, ‘Kwankwaso is the right man for the job’, ‘Nigeria sai Buhari’, ‘Kano sai Kwankwaso’ (Nigeria is for Buhari, Kwankwaso is for Kano), among others.”

The National Working Committee of PDP, late Saturday, announced the cancellation of primary elections organised in some states including Kano where Kwankwaso was already adjudged winner  of the previous exercise.

The action triggered apprehension among residence of the volatile city that saw the rapid deployment of security forces to strategic places to forestall the situation from degenerating.

The angry protesters chanted anti Jonathan slogan amid threat to quit the party for Peoples Redemption party in event Rabiu Kwankwaso is disallow from flying the PDP flag in the next election.

Vanguard reports that the procession was closely guided and monitored by Rapid Response Unit of the police to their destination located at the Farm centre area of the commercial city.

Addressing Reporters on arrival at the NUJ Press centre, leader of the Kano stakeholders, senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo described the action of the  National Headquarters of the Party as ‘embarrassing . stressing that ‘ the leadership in Kano were never taken into confidence before the pronouncement.

Senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo that was flanked by other party juggernauts in the party rejected the call for a re run, adding that vthe previous exercise where the former Governor won the race was adjudged ‘supervising agents as transparent, free and fair’, stressing that ‘co contestants accepted the final result and congratulate the winner’.

Senator Hayatu Bello therefore called on the Party leadership tojettission the idea of a rerun in ‘order not to jepopardize the chances of the party in the forthcoming poll in the state.

He declined comments on whether they will migrate from the party in event the National leadership failed to call the January 26th rerun in the state.
