The alleged secret accord between the governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi and the former governor of the state, Mr. Ayo Fayose may have broken down, as the latter has called on the former to honour the agreement between them over the  Ekiti Central Senatorial District which he, Fayose is eyeing.

Fayose, a former member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who has now decamped to the Labour Party, LP, had worked assiduously with the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, during the 2009 gubernatorial re-run to oust the former governor, Engr Segun Oni from office.

Fayose  who broke his long silence over not too rosy relationship between him and some members of the ACN while speaking with newsmen, reminded Fayemi that there was an agreement between them prior to the 2009 governorship re-run that if he should support Fayemi for the governorship re-run that the ACN would concede Ekiti Central Senatorial District to him during the April general elections.

Fayose said much as he regarded Dr. Fayemi as a gentleman and one with a sense of integrity, he would advise him to seize the opportunity presented by the crisis in the party over the district’s ticket in the ACN to retrace his step and according to the agreement, reciprocate the help he rendered him to reclaim his governorship victory.

“In the build up to the 2009 governorship rerun, we had this agreement at the Ikoyi Towers at which nine prominent Ekiti indigenes were present. Among them were Wole Olanipekun; a former deputy governor of the state, Bisi Omoyeni; and a serving People governor in the South-West. If the party, ACN, denied that there is an agreement, I know that Fayemi, as a gentleman, will not deny the agreement.

“He has the opportunity now, based on the crisis in the party over the ticket, to right the wrong of abandoning the agreement. He knows that injustice was visited on him when he was denied his freely-given mandate and I think he would not want to visit injustice on someone who helped him fight that injustice.”

“It is not that one cannot win that election if we go to the field, but what we call a gentleman’s agreement; that the ACN would not field any candidate against me, if I helped them to clinch the rerun, should not be jettisoned. There are many top indigenes of Ekiti State who are privy to this agreement and there was the understanding that I would not defect to the ACN to merit that support as I was already in another party when I was helping them,” he said.

He, however said if Fayemi refused to honour the Ikoyi Tower agreement, he would leave the matter for the masses of Ekiti people “who saw how each of us the players acted in the drama of Ekiti governorship rerun” to decide on the matter, calling on members of the ACN to vote for him in reciprocation of the help he rendered to the party to win back its mandate in 2009.

“Fayemi should allow the bickering ACN aspirants to go home and rest so that I can be used to settle the rift. This is not asking for a favour out of the blues, but in honour of our agreement which the governor cannot deny. We don’t need any more acrimony in Ekiti,” he further declared
