Former Chairman, Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers, Igwe Ezeoba Alex Nwokedi, has expressed delight over the re-opening of Anambra State University, ANSU and also urged his to register in the ongoing voter registration exercise.

Igwe Alex Nwokedi, who, last week, said the protracted strike action at the institution was no longer at ease with leaders of thought in the state thereby calling on the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Peter Obi and the institution’s ASUU to fast-track arrangement to ensure that the school re-open without further delay, described the strike call off as good omen for the state government and the people in general.

Life returned to the two campuses of the institution in Uli and Igbariam immediately after the announcement by ASUU, last Monday, that the six months old strike had been called off.

The Uthokpo Na Eze Achalla, Nwokedi, talking to Sunday Vanguard on phone on the ANSU issue, also commented on the ongoing voter  registration. He said it was very important in the frantic effort at making Nigeria truly better.

Igwe Nwokedi, who was press secretary to the Head of State during the General Olusegun Obasanjo’s military regime, disclosed that his recognition of the weight of voter  registration exercise in the process for building a better and greater nation informed why he had to hurry back home from his medical check-up in Lagos to enable him mobilise his people to fully participate in the  exercise.

His words: “Voter  registration is the  first step to ensuring credible and violence free elections.  So, everybody should come out to register. I however want to appeal to the registration officers to cooperate and especially be patient with the people when they get to the  rural areas in order to ensure that everybody is registered.”
