The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Enugu State, has deployed computer engineers in polling centres to fix the problems with the Direct Data Capture, DDC, machines.

Dr Josiah Uwazuruonye, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Enugu that the engineers upgraded the machines from 1.2 to 1.8 gigabytes.

He said: “The machines were upgraded to enable them to capture fingerprints easily. INEC as a commission is not resting.  It is doing everything to solve the problem.’’

The commissioner said that INEC constituted a task force and ICT experts to visit all the local government areas in the state, to identify problems associated with the machines.

“We hope that by the time all the machines are upgraded, the speed and efficiency will no longer be in doubt,’’ Uwazuruonye said.

He added that the commission paid N66, 659,600 into NYSC collaboration account, to take care of corps members’ training, deployment, transportation and other allowances.

“We have informed the state Coordinator of NYSC and a detailed list of corps members to be paid has been sent to their office this morning.

“NYSC will now make the necessary arrangements to pay the money into corps members’ individual accounts,’’ he said.

According to him, each corps member will collect N35,600 at the end of the 14-day-exercise.

He urged corps members to exercise patience as the commission would enhance their comfort.
