Stock market indicators regain 1.08%

The Nigerian StocK Exchange (NSE) , Wednesday, urged all the stockbroking firms under sanction to forward the acknowledged copy of their responses to the meeting scheduled to be held at  Association of Stockbroking Houses of Nigeria (ASHON) today (Thursday).

Meanwhile,the market indicators for measuring the performance indices the market capitalisation and the All share index both rebounded by 1.08 per cent each.

The capitalisation surged by 93.07 billion to close at N8.704 trillion from N8.611 trillion at which it opened, while the index appreciated by 291.3 bases points to close at 27,245.10 points from 26,245.80 points.

Forty eight stocks appreciated in price higher than the 19 of the previous day, led by Guinness Nigeria Plc with a gain of N10.50 to close at N220.58 per share, AG Leventis Plc followed with a gain of N0.12 to close at N2.53 per share and Champion Breweries Plc garnered N0.11 to close at N2.34 per share.

Other share price gainers include: International Breweries Plc N0.29, Union Bank Nigeria Plc N0.24, Red Star Express Plc N0.15, Honeywell Flour Mills Plc N0.24, May and Baker Nigeria Plc N0.21, Oceanic Bank Plc N0.15, RT Briscoe Plc N0.13, among others.

On the other hand, Nigeria German Chemical Plc recorded the highest share price loss on the losers table dropping by N0.64 to close at N12.27 per share, Aluminium Extrusion Industry Plc followed with a loss of N0.61 to close at N11.78 per share and john Holt Plc dipped by N0.39 to close at N7.58 per share.

Other share price losers include: Nigeria Aviation Handling Company Plc N0.52, Starcomms Plc N0.06, Longman Nigeria Plc N0.36, Prestige Assurance Company Plc N0.10, Tantalizers Plc N0.03, C and I Leasing Plc N0.06, Eterna Oil and Gas Plc N0.20, among others.

Meanwhile, four NSE sectoral indexes closed positive as NSE 30 which basically measures the performance of blue chips in the market gained by 1.55 per cent, NSE Banking gained the highest points by 2.08 per cent, NSE Food and Beverages garnered 1.30 per cent, NSE Insurance appreciated by 0.52 per cent and NSE Oil and Gas declined further by 0.03per cent.

Equity trading appreciated by 12.07 per cent, as a turnover of 391.20 million share valued at N3.60 billion was recorded in 6,771deals in contrast to the previous day’s turnover of 349.07  million shares valued at N2.75 billion in 6,087 deals.

First Bank of Nigeria Plc recorded the highest patronage on the sectorial analysis accounting for 70.11 per cent of the market turnover with 274.28 million shares valued at N2.31 billion in 4,037 deals.

The Insurance sub-sector trailed on the sectorial analysis accounting for 9.41 per cent of the market turnover with 36.79 million shares valued at N29.09 million in 483 deals.
