OSUN State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has blamed the absence of meaningful development by successors of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, for the difficulties and challenges confronting people of the South West zone.

Aregbesola who spoke at a reception in his honour by the Ijesa Forum in Ilesa where he was bestowed with the Asiwaju of Ijeshaland, by the Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, declared: “Any meaningful development stopped in Nigeria, particularly the South West, because visionless and clueless people had continued to impose themselves on all of us.”

The governor who called for the reversion of “the unwholesome trend” promised that he would strive to reduce poverty, halt reliance on food importation and check the current bastardisation of education in the state.

On his bestowal of the Asiwaju title, Aregbesola called for peaceful coexistence and unity in diversity in Ijesaland, adding that the height of human fulfilment was to be celebrated by one’s own people.

He said: “After God, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the good people of Lagos State and members of his family have been the pillars which made my victory possible,” adding that the Owa Obokun and eminent Ijesha citizens should specially thank Asiwaju Tinubu and the people of Lagos State for their support since his struggle to reclaim his mandate started.
