To reinforce the premium the Nigerian Communications Commission NCC, places on the essence of Sim card registration, the commission has slated a forum to enlighten the public on modalities of conducting the registration at the Milipat Hotels, Nsukka tomorrow.
The forum marks the second in series after a similar forum in March last year at Ekpoma, Edo State.
According to NCC, the Sim card registration exercise forms part of its many programmes directed at effectively, protecting, informing and educating the Nigerian masses which had generated a lot of heat in the polity.
Despite the controversy the exercise had generated at the presentation of the cost implication to the national Assembly and its subsequent approvals by the lawmakers, to the impact it would have on the statistical data base of the Nigerian nation, NCC said the Sim Card registration must be seen as a veritable tool for telephone consumer protection.
The agency further described the exercise as part of its strategy to solving the constant and incessant complaints about loss of handsets and the attendant loss of informations therein.
In its characteristic stance, NCC explained that it had taken the gauntlet in ensuring that this vice is curbed maximally by educating consumers on the necessity of registering Sim cards, as a way of dissuading snatchers and thieves of handsets.
And to achieve this goal, it explained that consumers must be prepared to go through some painful hurdles preparatory to the bliss that will come after the completion of the exercise.
Similarly, the agency said the topic of the first edition “Sim Card Registration: A Veritable Tool for Consumer protection”,would also form the subject of discussion at the Nsukka forum slated tomorrow. It therefore, called on the general public to be in attendance.
