A prominent supporter of Governor Isa Yuguda, Alhaji Shehu Umar, Tuesday narrowly escaped abduction by seven gunmen, a few minutes after he finished a Political meeting with Bauchi State Governor.

Alhaji Shehu Umar, who narrated his ordeal before newsmen in bauchi said,”last night, the Governor called me around 11pm to his house in order to discuss Political issues. While we were discussing, someone called me with a strange number, but I refused to pick the call because I was with the governor and the strange caller kept calling.

Shehu disclosed that he told the caller that he was with the governor and that he should wait for him at home, but the strange caller insisted that he wanted to see him urgently. He said when he finished his discussions with the governor; he went out to meet the kidnappers at the gate who were fighting with the securities to allow them gain entrance.

While driving to his house, the victim said, “They followed me and entered into my house forcefully. The gunmen, who were seven in number, accused me of influencing Bauchi delegates to vote for Jonathan instead of Atiku. In order to defend myself, I told them that I am not a delegate and that I was not responsible for influencing any of the delegates. They then brought out a gun, a big knife, over powered me and took me away inside their car and headed straight to Gida Dubu Housing estate along Gubi dam.

Shehu said they brought out a gun and a knife and they injured him at his neck, threatening to slaughter him, but one of them objected, saying that he should not be slaughtered; he added that he was severely beaten and poured three buckets of water on him.

He said luckily for him his brother followed them and when he saw the house they took him inside he went and reported the matter to Policemen who came in they broke the house and rescued him, they recovered four guns, Indian hemp, knifes and other weapons.

Confirming the incidence, the Police Public Relations Officer ASP Mohammed, said they had arrested the suspects and will investigate the matter further after they will charge them to court.
