MEMBERS of National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, of INEC ad hoc staff for the voters’ registration exercise in Ofoloko ward in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State, did not bargain for what they got yesterday as they were beaten to a state of stupor over their  alleged inability to operate the Direct Data Capturing, DDC, machines.

Vanguard correspondent who monitored the exercise in the area,  reported that the timely intervention of a former Special Adviser to Governor Ibrahim Idris on Sports, Alhaji Adamu Enape, calmed fray nerves and  saved the situation from assuming a dangerous dimension.

Enthusiastic voters who thronged the centre as early as 8a.m. to be registered,  were disappointed that the NYSC officials were unable to operate the DDC machines which they claimed were switching off on their  own.

This development, however, did not go down well with the prospective voters who were mainly youths as they descended on the five NYSC members, beating them to a state of coma.

Security agents, some of whom were mainly members of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, took to their heels when they saw that the crowd had outnumbered them.

Some of the people who spoke to our correspondent lamented that despite the billions of naira expended on the exercise it has turned out to be failure.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mohammed Abu baker when contacted described the incidents as unfortunate adding however that the commission was yet to received official reports on the matter.

MEAMWHILE, The All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP),  yesterday invaded the office  of the Independent Electoral Commission INEC in protest  in compliant over what they described as the slow space the voters exercise is being conducted.

ANPP Chairman in the State, Alhaji Faruk Yahaya told the the commissioner, Ahmed Abubaker that the DDC machines were no were near to the designated centers alleging that the machines were being diverted to  private houses  of the  ruling peoples democratic stalwarts members.
