Ohakim counsels families of Nigeria’s fallen heroes

By CHIDI NKWOPARA
Families of Nigeria’s fallen heroes have been urged not to despair but put their trust in God so as to positively forge ahead in life.

Imo State governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, made the appeal while speaking after the church service to mark this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day at Saint Mark’s Church, 34, Field Artillery Brigade, Obinze.

Chief Ohakim announced a donation of N5 million for the take off of a micro-credit scheme to be established for women in the barracks, as well as a scholarship scheme for the best students in the barracks.

He commended the very cordial working relationship existing between the state government and the security agencies in the state, especially the army and the police, which he described as “wonderful”.

Speaking also, the Commander, 34 Field Artillery Brigade, Obinze, Brigadier General A.I.G. Dampome, disclosed that for some time now, the Brigade has faced some challenges in the discharge of its operations.

He solicited the continued support of the state government to enable the officers and men of the Brigade to function optimally in the discharge of their constitutional duties.

Earlier in his sermon, the vicar of St. Mark’s Church, Lieutenant (Rev) Bitrus Nyiam, noted that although Nigeria had been blessed with abundant natural and human resources, the citizens had faced numerous challenges.

The Anglican cleric, therefore, charged Nigerians to seek the face of God through repentance from their wickedness.
