Super Falcons assistant coach Ann Agumanu-Chiejine is optimistic that in no distance future Nigerian women players will climb the podium to be crowned world footballer of the year.

Reacting to Monday’s crowning of Brazilian mercurial player Marta Vieira da Silva as Fifa women player of the year, the once colourful head gear wearing Super Falcons goalkeeper told SuperSport.com that Nigeria’s domination of Africa’s equivalent of the award is a strong hope that soon our girls will be world best.

“Anyway I am happy that at the African level our girls have been clinching the awards, Perpetua Nkwocha just won the award recently.
“I am happy we are getting there, we should always think positive, if we can get to Africa level nothing debars us from getting to the world level.

“I know one day, somehow our players will be able to get there, Rome was not built in a day, Marta was not born one day and she starts walking and you cannot compare Martha’s age with some of our girls here, so I think it has to do with age and time, when the time comes we will win it.

“Of course, I happy for Marta, who will not be happy with her but I know one day, somehow it will be our girls turn.”

The former Nigerian international who spoke positively of Falcons at the World Cup in Germany later this year assured that their tough group opponent, Germany who humbled them 8_0 in an international friendly will not beat them again.

“Falcons, the African women champion are the best, at African level we are the best and at the world level we will get there, we will be the best someday, somehow, I do not know, it may be this year, it may be in four or five months time but I believe we are going to surprise the world. We are going to do what we have not done before.

“Thank God we have a female coach; this is the beginning of success for us.

We are playing Germany, we have seen their weak points, we have seen our own weak points. We have seen their good part, we have seen our own good part, that is why it is good for us to have more friendly matches, it will a different ball game when we meet at the World Cup,” she said.

Nigeria is in the same group with world champion Germany, France and Canada.
