Nigeria, a failed state due to falsehood- Cleric

BY DAYO JOHNSON
THE Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Ondo, Rt Revd Latunji Lasebikan Tuesday reviewed the state of the nation and gave a damning verdict that the members of the National Assembly had betrayed the electorate and failed the nation.

He spoke in Akure during a service organised to mark the 80th birthday of the retired Anglican Bishop of Akure Diocese, Emmanuel Bolanle Gbonigi, held at the Chapel of Annunciation, Archbishop Vining College of Theology.

He said: “This is a challenge to our society where fabrication of lies is the order of the day, falsehood has taken over truth, politicians lie in their manifestoes, they rig elections. Look at one Senator from this area who had been there for 10, 12 years with nothing to show for it, yet they collect millions, billions of naira for nothing.

“This is why we have a failed state in this country because we live on falsehood. One writer described politics as the conduct of public affairs for private advantage, but our politicians should know that worldly acquisition without Jesus is a sheer waste of time.”

Lasebikan, however, applauded the administration of the Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, for appreciating the support of the electorate in reclaiming his mandate through the welfarist programmes which had impacted positively on the lives of the ordinary folks in its quest to change the face of the state for the better.

Speaking on the celebrant, he said “we all know that you remain versatile and always aggressive about your convictions on public issues, be it social, political or religious even at 80.
