Ilorin—Senator Gbemisola Saraki representing Kwara Central in the National Assembly on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, weekend, formally dumped her party for Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, ACPN, where she emerged the governorship candidate of the party in the state in the forthcoming election.

ACPN primaries in the state conducted by Chief Tunji Arosanye, at the Olorunsogo campaign office of the Sarakis, saw the lone co-contestant, Mr. Biodun Asolako from Ekiti local government  stepping down for the Senator who emerged unopposed as the party’s flag bearer.

The delegates  mobilised from the 16 local governments across the state affirmed her candidature, even as the 304 delegates entrusted their support for her.

Independent National Electoral Commission,  INEC, was represented at the occasion by Mr. Jacob Ayanda, who observed the process.

Responding, Senator Gbemisola Saraki,  said she was overwhelmed by the peoples support, particularly, the aspirant who stepped down for her to emerge.

She noted that no one could have predicted the outcome of the primaries.

She said: “I have nothing much to say because I am overwhelmed by joy. No one could have predicted the outcome of the primaries if he had not stepped down, and asked the delegates to support me.”

It would be recalled that last Sunday, the Second Republic Senate Leader, Dr. Olusola Saraki directed his supporters to leave PDP  for ACPN because of the rising number of the gubernatorial aspirants in the party who refused to acknowledge his endorsement of her daughter Senator Gbemisola Saraki as the next governor.
