General manager of 3SC of Ibadan, Mutiu Adepoju has said that the NPL/MTN League title sponsorship deal will drastically reduce the financial burden on Premier League clubs.
Speaking on the gains of the sponsorship deal, the former Nigeria international said the clubs will gradually become detached from their state governments that have found it increasingly difficult to release funds to clubs because of other state commitments.
“The problem is that all the clubs in the Premier League are owned and funded by state governments, and funds are hard to come by. A title sponsor like that of MTN will help a lot to alleviate some of the burden the clubs have been facing,” the 3SC boss said.
He stressed that the present financial level at the clubs did not make for true professionalism. “It has been difficult and it is a general thing. No club is financially healthy and government cannot do it alone. That is why I said the MTN deal is a good one . A title sponsor will ensure more money is put into the system and we look forward to seeing them perform.”
The ex-international known as “Head Master” for his knack for scoring goals with his head however prayed that nothing would scuttle the MTN sponsorship. “Let’s pray that it turns out well because I do not know what is going on now.”
