Reactions continue to trail the untimely demise of ex- Eagles defender Uchenna Okafor even as former Governor of Abia state Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu expressed shock over the development.
“Uche Okafor adored his daughter Tochukwu and believed strongly in the Lord, so I can’t understand the suicide theory. It took him quite some time to have the girl. While his wife Ify and friends panicked, he waited on God,”Kalu said.
The baby did not come to the footballer as a surprise since his slogan was God’s time is the best. While at Racing Mechelen Belgium in 1991 he spent thousands of dollars on fertility tests just to make his famiy happy but the girl did not come until 1995 when he was at Ironi Ashdod Israel.
“He was close to Ben Iroha and Mike Emenalo and nothing suggested that frustration crept in somewhere.Right from his early days at NEPA Owerri, P and T Spiders and Concord, Uche was a perfect gentleman,” Kalu added.
The Pillar of Sports urged the Federal Government to support the family in time of death pleading that the family should be spared the agony of running around for the House the defender was promised in 1994, for winning the Nation’s Cup.
Uche Okafor also won the United States Major League Soccer trophy with Kansas City Wizards
