POLICE officers from the Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), weekend, arrested the traditional ruler of Arigidi Akoko, Oba Isa Olanipekun.

This was sequel to a petition written to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim, on the crisis bedeviling the ancient town.

Sunday Vanguard gathered that the Oba was arrested by the police at Oke-Agbe and handed over to the officers who whisked him away to Abuja.

Last week, some indigenes of the town said not to be in the camp of the Oba were attacked by suspected hoodlums and finger was  pointed at the monarch.

It was gathered that the petitioner alleged that Olanipekun and a prominent son of the town (names withheld) on January 1, 2011 invaded Ekitiji quarters, the abode of those opposed to the monarch.

Sunday Vanguard learnt that the incident which was said to have happened about 9 a.m. when the people were preparing for the New Year church service left three people wounded.

They alleged that efforts at getting justice in the state had proved abortive as the police in the state may have been compromised.

The new year attack was said to be the fourth to be carried out on the quarters with the first one that happened in August 2009 claiming the life of one Igbekele Oyeleye.

It would be recalled that last August another violence also broke out in the town when youths from Ayase quarters clashed with their colleagues from Ekitiji leaving three persons wounded while many houses and cars were destroyed.

Disturbed by the development in the town, the state government last year intervened in the crisis by summoning the parties to a meeting with the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mr. Diran Iyantan, with a view to finding a lasting solution.

But, instead of the crisis abating after the intervention, violence has broken out twice with properties worth millions of naira destroyed.

Police authorities in the state confirmed the arrest of the monarch.
