An aspirant to Owerri federal constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Imo State, Mr. Tony E. Anyadike, has announced his voluntary withdrawal from the race.
Making the announcement less than 24 hours to the party primaries in Owerri, Anyadike said he hinged his action on “the bad security report we are getting”.
He further stressed that “the tension which is building up ahead of the party primaries are not clement enough to allow for a peaceful primary”.
Noting that he would not like to be in a contest where blood will be spilled, the PDP chieftain also opined that any victory won from bloodshed was not worth celebrating.
“My intention to serve is noble and I feel that there is no greater sacrifice I can make than averting bloodshed.
“That is why I am opting out in order to allow a peaceful process and save the lives of our people we intend to serve,” Anyadike said.
Anyadike said he was a loyal party man who had no intention to leave the PDP.
