GOVERNOR Peter Obi of Anambra State has granted amnesty to 31 persons serving various jail terms as part of activities to mark the New Year celebration.

A memorandum from the office of the Secretary to Anambra State Government  and signed by the Attorney General of the State and Commissioner for Justice,  Mr. Emmanuel Chukwuma, said the beneficiaries  were in Onitsha , Aguata and  Awka Prisons

Others came from Awka and Enugu prisons.

A breakdown of the list shows that those released from Onitsha Prison are  Samuel Amobi, Nnamdi Iwuoha, Chidi Chinwuba, Onyebuchi Nkpuma and Nzube Okechukwu.

Others from Onitsha Prison are John Okoye, Ejimkonye Okeke,Chidi Alagwuonye, Nonso Udemezuo and Chijioke Obasi .

From Aguata Prison,Ifenayi Okeonu, Samuel Okwukamue, Emmanuel Uzoka,Tochukwu Okafor, Ikechukwu Okoye, Michael Obong, Nonso Chukwuneke and Jude Oyeke were pardoned.

Those who were lucky from Awka Prison were Chukwunwike Okeke whose sentence was commuted to 21 years effective from July  22, 2010; Azuka Nwolisa,Ejike Eze, Ikechukwu Okeke and Chukwuebuka Ezemu all of whom were pardoned.

Also, an armed robbery convict , Chukwunweike Okeke, who had spent 10 years in Awka Command had his life imprisonment commuted to 21 years, effective from the date of his sentence.

From  Enugu Command, four people smiled home and they include Chima Jokwu, Osita Nwaokedi ,Chidozie Obigbo and Ifeanyi Elendu .
