POINEER Governor of Edo State, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has described the bombing of the “Mammy” market in Mogadishu Barracks Abuja, on New Year eve as very worrisome, saying it was apparent that the security systems in the country had broken down.
He said: “there is the impression that our security systems had broken down because we have two types of security. One is the pro-active security, which prevents things from happening and we sleep everyday. We don’t know what is going on, what is happening and they don’t come out to make claims.
“Then, we have the expo-security, which makes sure that when trouble starts, it is stopped and those guilty are punished. The pro-active security is now collapsing because they are not able any more to cope with stopping incidents of this nature. So, it is really a very worrisome development and until we can see visibly that the system is on top of it, have control and know the types of bombs that are involved, know the class of people who can put together explosive devices of this nature, then we are in trouble.”
Chief Odigie-Oyegun, who was reacting to the recent spate of bombings in the country in an interview with Vanguard, weekend, in Benin, Edo State, said the security apparatus in the county should be able to ascertain whether the bombs were crude or sophiscated, so as to know the class of people involved in the recent bombings to enable them know what actions to take.
According to him, “when you look at the totality of these events against the developing political situation in the country, particularly in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the imminent implosion of the PDP and the fact that the party has become so desperate, they don’t have ethics any more, they don’t have lies to tell again, the kind of abuses being hauled on the President of the country, they are just aspirants and not yet contestants, it could lead to a total breakdown of the political system“.
“Even within the PDP, the party doesn’t even seem to have respect for the nation’s President and Vice-President. I have never seen such a thing in the African system, a President so abused and vilified within his own party, not even from the opposition. It is very worrisome”.
