Imo State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has reminded media practitioners nationwide to ensure peaceful and credible general elections in Nigeria through factual reportage of political events as the polls draw closer.

State NUJ Chairman, Chief Fidel Onyeneke, who made the passionate appeal in his New Year message to journalists, also described 2010 as not only very tasking but also fruitful for practicing newsmen in the state.

“As we enter the New Year, we must bear in mind that as the watchdog of the society, we have the crucial role of ensuring a peaceful and credible general elections in Nigeria through our factual coverage and reportage of political events,” Chief Onyeneke pleaded.

Reaffirming his confidence in the professional acumen of Imo journalists, Onyeneke also urged his colleagues t support the NUJ leadership, with a view to bringing honour and glory to the journalism profession.

“I want to place on record that the year 2010 had been a fruitful one to all journalists in Imo State, in spite of all challenges.

“Journalists displayed a lot of maturity and dedication in the discharge of their professional duties during the past year,” Chief Onyeneke said.

He then felicitated with media practitioners and their friends nationwide, adding that he also appreciated all Nigerians for their cooperation with journalists.
