By Henry Umoru
THE National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo has threatened that the leadership of the party will not hesitate to cancel congresses where violence mar such exercises as was in the case of Oyo State.
Nwodo condemned the violent act which took place in Oyo state where some persons were feared dead, just as he charged security agencies to thoroughly investigate the Oyo violence with a view to apprehending the killers of the former chairman of the state chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Lateef Salako alias Eleweomo.
It would be recalled that the PDP National Chairman had said severally that he will not condone any act of thuggery or any form of gangsterism or rigging, adding that he would prefer that any candidate who relishes in such negative acts should fly the flag of opposition political parties rather than that of PDP, if he remains the party’s national chairman.
Nwodo while reviewing the level of mayhem that took place in Ibadan during which Alhaji Lateef Salako alias Eleweomo lost his life, said that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party would not accept any exercise marred by violence.
A statement by his Special Assistant, Media, Ike Abonyi said, “the party is committed to conducting a free, fair and credible exercise” but noted that it can only be feasible if members cooperate and decide to play by the rule.”
