Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Mr Marvel Akpoyibo, Friday, advised Lagosians to discountenance alarm by a group on an imminent attack by Boko Haram Group in the state.
Describing the alarm as mere device to create undue panic in the state, Apkoyibo enjoined Lagosians to go about their legal activities, particularly during this festive period, assuring them of the command’s performance of its constitutional duty to protect life and property.
Apparently to allay Lagosians fears, he informed that a handful number of policemen had been drafted to violence prone areas in the state for the new year’s eve as well as the New Year day. The men who are in plain clothes according to him, would comb the designated nooks and crannies on foot and with vehicles.
Said he: “I do not want anybody to create undue panic or to create something that is scary. This is because we do not believe in the destruction of life in Lagos.”
He was however quick to clarify that the security measures put in place in respect to churches and mosques was not in response to any imminent threat to public peace but rather, a proactive measure by “a proactive, responsive and responsible command to promote public good”.
The Command boss therefore warned parents and guardians to restrain their children and wards from indiscriminate use of fire works at this time of the season, noting that apart from its capacity of endangering the lives of its users, criminal elements also hide under the cover of fire works to wreck havoc on innocent citizens.
