ABUJA — Mr Timi Alaibe has declared his interest to contest for Bayelsa State governorship under Labour Party just as he has renounced his membership of the Peoples’ Democratic Party for the Nigerian Labour Party.

Alaibe who indicated his interest to contest for Bayelsa State governorship under the Nigeria Labour Party in Abuja yesterday was immediately given the nomination form to fill as the party candidate for Bayelsa State come 2011.
According to Alaibe, “we have had discussions for a while which was rumoured but today we have come to dispel the rumour as out group is here today to declare for Labour Party”

He stated: “Having withdrawn my membership of the People’s Democratic Party, I want to formally intimate you with my interest to be the next Bayelsa Stare governor under the Nigerian Labour Party”

“My decision was informed by the resolve to join the concerted effort of the Labour Party to free my state from the shackles of PDP because our dear state desperately needs speedy transformation for a rebirth of the despoiled state.

“I will never let our great party down as I will deliver on my promises, following the structure of one-man, one-vote in Bayelsa come 2011’

“My group chose Labour Party because the party is resilience and united and labour party fightS the cause of the common man, Alaibe said.

“The party produced governor for Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko and his achievements in that state are attestation of the party’s goals and objectives.”

Timi Alaibe is currently the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC. A true son of the Niger Delta, Timi showed quite early the diligence, intelligence, humanity

Prior to his appointment as Managing Director, Mr. Alaibe worked in the banking industry. He served as Vice President of Cosmopolitan Bancshares in 1994, and later as General Manager, Corporate Banking and Investment at Societe Generale Bank (Nig.) Ltd.

Jonathan accepts Alaibe’s resignation
Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday accepted the resignation of his Special Adviser on Niger Delta Affairs, Mr Timi Alaibe.

A statement from the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Ima Niboro, said Alaibe’s resignation takes effect from December 31.

Niboro stated that Alaibe had informed the president in a letter that he would be resigning his appointment to contest for the governorship of Bayelsa in the next general elections.
