WARRI—THE Warri National Council has enjoined Nigerians to be alive to their civic responsibility by ensuring that all eligible voter turn out enmasse to register in the forthcoming voters registration exercise to enable them vote for good governance in the 2011 general elections at all levels of government.

Chairman of the Council, Chief Brown Mene in a statement, yesterday,  said democracy confers on every citizen the responsibility to effectively use the electoral process to elect those who would form the government at all levels of governance in the country, saying that the yearning for credible elections cannot happen without the electorate first exercising their responsibility to cast their vote appropriately.

He said this call was a result of an extra-ordinary meeting of the council held in Warri recently, noting that, voting was a non-negotiable and non-transferable duty that must be perform. He charged the electorate that their votes would count in the next elections.

According to him, “the call has become very imperative in view of the re-run elections ordered by the Court of Appeal, Benin, Edo State.” He urged all eligible to voters to discard whatever form of apathy they might  no matter the reason, stressing that “no one should allow any intimidation, deceit or indifference to keep him or her from that solemn role.”

The Warri National Council is a body set up by the Warri Monarch, His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse 11,  the Olu of Warri with the mandate to deliberate on all matters that has to do with the well-being and development of Itsekiri people and their contribution to the development of the Nigerian state.

The membership, which is by appointment, cuts across the various strata of  the kingdom.
