Dramatic twist to Enugu PDP screening exercise

THE crisis rocking the Enugu State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, took another dimension, Tuesday, when the chairperson sent by Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo-led National Working Committee disappeared after making an initial appearance at the venue.

The screening of the House of Assembly aspirants seemed to be getting underway at the State Secretariat of the party as directed by the National Secretariat when Chief (Mrs) Grace Eyo Ita, from Cross River State, arrived to meet the other panel members.

In a dramatic twist, she received a phone call and thereafter asked for one hour break for the participants to reconvene for the commencement of the exercise. Thereafter, news filtered in that she had decided that the screening must hold at another venue to the consternation of both the aspirants and the panel members.
It was at 5.45p.m. that the other screening panel members decided to break their silence. Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Secretary of the panel, Barr. Adamu Ishiaku expressed dismay with the turn of events.

He said: “We’re surprised that she is not yet back for us to start. However, we can’t wait because we just have to conclude the exercise as scheduled. So, we’ve decided to elect one of us as the chairman.”
