AWKA—No fewer than 4,000 persons in Oraifite, Ekwusigo local government area of Anambra State, are to benefit from free screening by a medical team on a mission to the country.
The exercise, billed for December 20-27, is expected to be flagged off by the state governor, Mr. Peter Obi.
The team, comprising Oraifite indigenes in different parts of the world, will screen the people for high blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol, while simultaneously gathering statistical data from each beneficiary.
Organisers of the free screening said in a statement yesterday: “ We are Nigerians residing in various cities around the globe we are all natives of Oraifite in Ekwusigo Local Government Area from Anambra State.
“We schedule a medical mission to Oraifite for the period covering 20th – 27th December 2010. We intend to screen the population there for high blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol, while simultaneously gathering statistical data from each participant.
“We estimate that well over four thousand people will benefit from this exercise and wish to formally invite you to the above medical mission which will be flagged off by His Excellency and the Commissioner for Health, Anambra State.
“We know that this will be a major activity happening in Anambra State during the Xmas holidays and will provide an opportunity to showcase Anambra State in good light.
“This is to also request that you assist us with the provision of Media coverage of the medical mission activities during the period.
“Please also note that the 25th and 26th of December will be free of all Medical Mission Activities to mark the Xmas festival.”
