AN alleged plan by the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ondo State to impose a candidate for the seat of the South Senatorial District of the state is causing ripples in the party.

Already, an aspirant of the party, Akinsola Jimoh, has decamped to the National Transformation Party while two others, Olorogun Eddy Olafeso, a former information commissioner, and Segun Ayerin, a former local government chairman, have abandoned their ambition.

But a former education commissioner in the state, Princess Oladunni Odu, insisted, weekend to go the whole hog and contest in the primaries with the immediate past governor, Dr Olusegun Agagu, in January next year.

This is coming ahead of the endorsement of  Odu by notable leaders of the party including a  former secretary to the state government, a  former PDP state chairman, former Commissioners, members of the House of Assembly and chieftains of the party in the area.

The leaders, led by a former lands and housing commissioner, Deacon Ayo Ifayefunmi, said their support for the aspiration of Odu was total and unshakable.

But the PDP in the state has denied that a candidate would be imposed, saying  all the aspirants would take part in the primaries.

Its director of publicity, Ayo Fadaka, said that the allegation was baseless as the party has internal democracy. He accused those jittery as people peddling the unfounded rumor of imposition of a candidate.

Addressing newsmen after a meeting in Okitipupa, Ifayefunmi said that they decided to support the aspiration of  Odu because of her antecedent and pedigree in politics
