A member of the Federal House of Representatives, Mr Samson Osagie, has urged his colleagues in the National Assembly to rest the move to make themselves members of the National Executive of their respective parties.

Osagie, who represents Orhionmwon/Uhunmwonde Federal Constituency of Edo State, commended the Senate for passing the Electoral Act Amendment Bill without the controversial proposal to make members of the National Assembly automatic members of the NEC of political parties, saying their action would douse the tension the move generated.

He said though the debate was good for the nation’s democracy, it “goes to show that we have a Naitonal Assembly who listens to the pulse of Nigerians on every issue.”

According to him, “the recent attempt by the National Assembly to make members of the entire National Assembly members of the NEC of their respective parties has been quite worrisome in the sense that it generated a lot of controversy that tended to heat up the polity.”
