ABAKALIKI — Ebonyi State chapter of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, has accused the PDP-led government in the state of inflicting untold socio-economic hardship on the people, saying within the last four years, people had been killed by hunger, starvation and disease through no fault of theirs.
Leader of ACN in Ebonyi State, Chief Sunny Adol-Awam, who addressed a mammoth crowd on the occasion of the party’s state congress at Ntezi-Abba last weekend, noted that the people of the state were yearning for a change from the oppressive and insensitive cabal that had colonised activities in the state.
According to him, this is the time for the masses to decide who should preside over their affairs.
He criticised the present government of providing amenities that only ensure that the rich continued to get richer at the expense of the poor.
He said: “Workers have been made to work without pay, students have been left out of school and market women, our mothers, have been driven from one corner to another in a wicked plan to deny them the means of livelihood.
“Poverty is not the trade mark of Ebonyi people but when the government they allowed to be in office continues to provide only amenities that ensure that the rich continues to get richer at the expense of the poor, it calls for closer thinking.”
“The government of the day knowing the tragedy that awaits it, has been using intimidation, coercion and all manners of false claims to confuse the long suffering masses of Ebonyi state. He added
Awam, who assured the people that the party would liberate and offer good governance in the state as it was currently happening in Lagos, Edo, Ekiti and Osun, urged them to be bold to obtain their voting cards which would enable them produce a change of governance in the state.
He appealed to security operatives in the state not to allow themselves to be used by irreverent politicians who are only desperate to cling to power through violence.
“What happened in Osun State should give us confidence that a determined people can make the government they want. We know we are determined to make a change in Ebonyi and give hope to our people.
“So, let us be bold to obtain our voting cards and wait for the “D” day for change in Ebonyi State. We believe that with the appointment of a new Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, the police would comport itself with utmost sense of responsibility and patriotism so that the 2011 elections reveals the wishes and aspiration of the people.” He asserted.
