Special Adviser to the Bayelsa State Governor on Mobilisation, Mr. Jude Tabai Monday said the entrant of the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta, Mr. Timi Alaibe into the governor race in the state would not pose any threat to the second term ambition of Governor Timipre Sylva.

The decision of the erstwhile Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Managing Director to contest the 2011 governorship race on the platform of the already crowded Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to many Bayelsans has altered the political equation and power balance in the predominantly riverine state.

Several prominent citizens of the state it was learnt pooled resources to purchase the nomination for Alaibe.

The former NDDC chieftain was said to come under pressure to contest the poll as part of his contribute to the development of the Bayelsa project.

The news of Alaibe’s entry into the governorship was yesterday the subject of discussion among stakeholders in the state with many seeing him as a formidable challenge for the incumbent who has already indicated interest to return stay beyond 2011.

Alaibe’s acceptance to contest the election on the platform of the PDP brings the party’s aspirants to 12, including the incumbent, Chief Timipre Sylva.

But the Special Adviser to the Governor on Mobilisation, Mr. Jude Tabai said there was no cause for alarm. He said none of those jostling for the governor’s seat can wrest power from him.
