OWERRI — Serious fears have been expressed that the delay in passing the 2010 Electoral Act may result in poor planning and conduct of the crucial polls, as political activities gradually gather momentum for the 2011 general elections.

The former Special Adviser to Governor Ikedi Ohakim on Administration and Events Management, Mrs. Ijeoma Nwafor, made her feelings known while fielding questions from journalists in Owerri.

She expressed regret that the continued tinkering with the provisions of the 2010 Electoral Act would not encourage concrete planning by the political actors.

Enjoining registered political parties to embark on massive political education and enlightenment of the citizenry, Mrs. Nwafor, however, expressed optimism that the recently released election timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was  feasible.

“The recently released election timetable by INEC is feasible, provided the major stakeholders will fully cooperate to make the outing free, fair, credible and acceptable,” Mrs. Nwafor said.
