AFTER savouring the joy of his unveiling that was witnessed by his parents, Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia has promised to bring back attacking football to the national team.Siasia, a ferocious attacker during his days in the Eagles pledged to make the team an attacking team.
“A team have to be known for one thing. The Super Eagles under me will be known for the attacking style of play”, Siasia pledged moments after the ceremony that has put a massive load on his shoulders. He also promised to instil discipline in the team.
Many Nigerians believe that the bane of the Super Eagles players has been discipline but Siasia said that he would not compromise on discipline. “Discipline is the fulcrum of any successful person or team. Discipline is going to be compulsory in all that we do. Any player who cannot cope or thinks that he is above discipline will have to leave for others to fill the gap. Discipline is not only going to be for the players alone. It will be binding on me, too.
I have to show discipline for the players to be disciplined, themselves. The job I have on hand is not an easy one but I know that God is with me. Nigerians are with me. The good wishes of people coupled with my own hardwork will make us achieve results. I am humbled and grateful to all Nigerians for this unique opportunity given to me to serve. I will put in my best and ensure that I package a team that all Nigerians will be very proud of”, he said still grappling to come to terms with his emotions.
Asked what would happen to the defense if he pays so much emphasis on attack, he laughed and retorted; “all we need do is to outscore our opponents. By so doing, we would have taken care of defense too”, he said.
