UGHELLI—DELTA State Commissioner for Transport, Chief Lawrence Osiegbu, yesterday, expressed readiness of the state government to equip the state School of Marine Technology, Burutu and make it one of the best in the Africa sub-region.

Osiegbu, who stated this when members of the newly inaugurated Governing Council of the School paid him a courtesy visit, expressed confidence in the membership of the council, adding that they were quality, credible and experienced hands.

Expressing hope that the school has come to stay, he noted that the school was the brain child of the former Governor of the state, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, whom he said was on sabbatical leave. He thanked the people of Burutu Community for their support to the school.

Osiegbu promised to work with the school Governing Council and management in order for them to have a better footing. H advised the Governing Council members to be committed and settle issues amicably before rushing to the press. He also  pleaded with the Acting Provost of the school, Dr. Johnson Dittimi to carry other staff along in the interest of peace when the school commences full operation.

Osiegbu stated that admission into the present three departments of Marine Technology, Engineering Technology and General Studies should be done gradually and thorough, disclosing that two brand new speed boats and some cars would be released immediately to the Governing Council and principal officers of the school.

Earlier, chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Benjamin Okaba thanked the State Government for setting up the school, adding that it would help to develop manpower for the marine industry.
