N-Delta: Lawmaker calls for moderation in military action

By Daniel Gumm
WARRI — APPARENT-LY disturbed by the conflicting reports from both spokespersons of the military and the indigenes of Ayakoromo community in Brutu Local Government Area of Delta State, over the the military action in the area, the lawmaker representing the Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Daniel Reyenieju, has called on the military to exercise restraint within the bounds of  military profession in the handling of current military action in Ayokoromo against  John Togo and his group.

Speaking to Vanguard, weekend, at the Osubi airport, near Warri, Delta State, the lawmaker said,  he was  disturbed by the conflicting reports from the area,  as the report from the military command was  strongly contested by civilians from the area.

According to the lawmaker, “even though I should believe the reports from the military command of my country, it will be totally immoral for me to dismiss in its totality, the gruesome stories emanating from the displaced persons as being told by those within the areas of military operations.

“As you know, whatever happens in Brutu council, given its contiguity with the land mass of the Warri Federal Constituency will definitely overflow into Warri town and environs,” he added.

Reyenieju appealed to residents of the Warri Federal Constituency to be their brothers and sisters keepers by assisting any displaced person from the Ayakoromo axis, who will need their assistance.

The lawmaker said “not too long ago, Gbaramatu area was the scene of such incidence and its accompanying displacements; and thus we know the trauma and hardship associated with such situation; and consequently, we must be concerned anytime such situation re_enacts, irrespective of the scene.
