Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State, Friday declared the support of the state for President Goodluck Jonathan’s presidential aspiration, saying the President should be rest assured of Abia State delegates’ votes at the impending Peoples Democratic Party primaries slated for January next year.

“For us in Abia, we are already committed to President Goodluck Jonathan’s aspiration,” he told a delegation of Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organisation that visited him at his office in Umuahia, the state capital.

The governor who described the President as “a brother, friend and in-law of Abia State” said the Abia people regarded the Goodluck/Sambo ticket as a divine one, warning that “anyone opposed to it is opposing God.”

Orji told the audience which included top leaders of the party in the state that he believed the Goodluck Jonathan project was a Nigerian project that must be seen to fruition.

“Come rain, come shine, we are with Mr. President,” he told the delegation led by its Directors-General, Senator Dalhatu Sarki Tafida, assuring it that “President Jonathan will get all the votes here and would win.”

In his speech, Tafida solicited the support of the governor and the people of the state for President Jonathan, saying his aspiration was in the interest of the unity and development of the country.

In a veiled reference to the contentious zoning debate, he said the President would provide national leadership, adding that he would unite rather than divide the country.

Tafida defended President Jonathan’s aspiration. “He has the constitution and the people behind him,” he said, adding that he had not seen anywhere in the world where a president spent about six months in office and was asked to step down.
