Shipowners urge consistency in maritime sector

By Udeme Clement

The Indigenous Shipowners Association of Nigeria (ISAN) has advised the Federal Government and  stakeholders in the maritime sector  to always take into account the fragile state of the industry and the need to consolidate on the gains so far achieved.

The Director General of ISAN, Ms. Funmi Folorunso, gave this advice on the heels of the arrest of the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and safety Agency (NIMASA), Temi Omatseye, and two directors of the agency by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently.

“The industry stakeholders are watching with keen interest the recent developments in NIMASA. They are particular about activities that would create an unstable atmosphere within the Nigeria Shipping Industry. ISAN is shocked to hear in the news of arrest of the DG of NIMASA and his colleagues, whom we believe to have been diligently working towards the advancement of the Nigeria Shipping Industry.’’
