Youth leader blames FG, JTF for resurgence of militancy

By Emma Arubi
WARRI — AYAKOROMO youth leader, Mr Ewaridideke Ekanpour, yesterday, said that the Federal Government and the Joint Task Force authorities were  responsible for the return of John Togo to militancy, even as he advised  JTF operatives to restrict their attack to John Togo camps.

Ekanpour, who also is the president of the Ijaw Peoples Congress, said the JTF had succeeded only in razing the houses of innocent Ayakoromo indigenes and killing more than 15 innocent persons while the camps of the renegade militant remain largely unscratched.

He expressed regret that John Togo, who was arrested in 2004 by the JTF for sea piracy and sundry crime in the waterways, was later released to mingle with good people in the society, instead of being eliminated, saying that he suspected the JTf was doing business with militants in the region to enable  continue to stay and make more illegal money.

Mr. Ewaridedike added that  even the houses of John Togo at Ogodobiri community were not razed, while the JTF was feeding the Federal Government with false information about their successes in their operations against Togo, when in fact they were  busy dealing with innocent people in a very unprofessional manner.

While describing the December 1, 2010, operation by the JTf operatives as an organised pogrom against the people of Ayakoromo community in the pretence of looking for John Togo, he said John Togo and his boys are jubilating in their camps and called for the removal of the JTf Commander for alleged unprofessional act of genocide.

He disclosed that with the current situation many innocent persons are in the bush for fear of their lives and blamed John Togo for running into the village in the face of the superior fire power of the soldiers, thus visiting unwarranted calamity on the people.

He, however, reaffirmed the community’s support for effort aimed at smoking out  militancy in the region, particularly John Togo, but appealed to Mr. President to call the JTF operatives to order.
