UGHELLI — UGHELLI, headquarter of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, was, yesterday, thrown into mourning, following the murder of Mr. Emmanuel Akaranwuan, a vhief nursing officer attached to the Mariere Central Hospital, Ughelli.
A reliable source told Vanguard, that the deceased was trailed by the suspected assailants to his house on Ekrejobor Road in the Ughelli metropolis at about 9:30 p.m. on Tuesay, adding that the suspects, numbering three alighted from a motorcycle and shot him at the head.
The source, who is close to the family, pleaded anonymity, saying the assailants rode off in the same motorcycle after ensuring that their target was dead, adding that one of the suspected assailants, manned the motorcycle, while the operation lasted.
According to the source, the murderers gained access into the compound before the guard could close the gate after opening for his late master, who was apparently returning from work, adding that the deceased was murdered in the car before he could come out of it in the full glare of his wife, Doris.
The late Akaranwuan, our correspondent gathered, hailed from Orogun town in the Ughelli North council of the state and picked up appointment with the state government upon completion of his nursing programme in 1981.
Speaking further, the source said the deceased was aged 52 and had five children.
Efforts to reach the Ughelli ‘B’ Divisional Police Officer on the matter proved abortive as at press time. However, a senior police officer attached to the division confirmed the incident, adding that the police were on top of the matter.
The police officer, who pleaded anonymity, said the police would get to the root of the matter.
