Officials of the  Standards Organisations of Nigeria (SON) have  sealed-off two warehouses located at Oshodi main market  for marketing fake cables worth N400 million.

Deputy Director, Enforcement, Mr.Felix Nyando, who led a team of SON Officials to Oshodi, said two warehouses were locked up by his men.

He added that on the spot unorthodox and physical examination by his officials at the market has revealed that, the cables are faked.
“We had magnetic field with us which we used in testing the cable and they all prove that they are made of iron properties, as all the cable conduct magnetic field.”

He explained that, cables are not made of iron properties because it has no resistance to heat. According to him, cables are expected to carry copper properties, because it has the capacity to resist heat and can conduct electricity without endangering the life of the users.
“Because we suspect that the owners are dealers on fake and dangerous cables, which are very hazardous to the society.”

Investigation further revealed that the current development is sequel to a tip_off by a concerned  member of the Cable Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (CAMA), NigerChin Electrical Development Company Limited to SON, that its products, including wire and cables have been faked by fraudulent people.

It was also gathered that the faked cables are valued at over N400million and are the type used by oil companies in their various operations.

Investigation also revealed that, SON is planning a raid at Alaba, Idumota and Santos markets, all in Lagos.
Information also revealed that part of the recovered faked cables at Oshodi market, bears the trade mark of both Kabelmetal Nigeria Plc and that of NigerChin.The SON official added that, the two warehouses involve in the shoddy business, are located in Oshodi main market respectively.
