Jos—The Pauline Tallen Campaign Organisation pursuing the governorship ambition of the Plateau State Deputy Governor has declared that Governor Jonah Jang has no moral right to seek re-election for a second term.

The organisation in a statement by the Acting Director General, Mr. Alex Kwapnoe said the handling of the protracted strike by health workers and other issues had clearly demonstrated the administration’s lack of commitment to the welfare of the people.

Said the statement: “We have observed with dismay the deteriorating state of governance in Plateau State. Apart from the fact that the Jang administration has failed in fulfilling all its electoral promises to the people of Plateau, it has added insult to injury by failing in all the 10 subjects of his development agenda.

“The health agenda is a total failure because our hospitals are in a deplorable state with no drugs, functional facilities with the resultant deaths of many Plateau citizens. The strike action embarked upon by health workers in the State further proves the insensitivity of the government to the plight of the people.”

“In fact for about a month now since the strike began, nothing concrete has been done by the Jang government to address the issues raised by the striking workers and as a result many Plateau citizens are daily losing their lives because they cannot afford the bills in private hospitals.”

The statement appealed to striking health workers and those of tertiary institutions to explore peaceful avenues for quick resolution of the issues at stake in the interest of the people of the state who are suffering as a result of their action.

“The series of strikes in Plateau State by different groups of workforce is a clear sign of the failure of governance in Plateau State. As a matter of the fact, the present leadership of Governor Jang has no moral right to return to power in 2011”, it added.

The deputy governor had been quoted as justifying her decision to contest against her boss on the quest to provide better leadership for the state.to make a difference if he gets elected.

He said implementation of the report of the Abisoye Panel and that of the Solomon Lar-led Advisory Committee would go a long way in solving the frequent crisis in the state and appealed to well-meaning citizens of the state to work for peace.
