AKURE—AHEAD of  next year’s election, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ondo State, yesterday dangled olive branch to  members that decamped to the ruling Labour Party after the tribunal judgment to return to help rebuild the party.

The party gave an assurance that such decampees would be welcome back into the fold.

A statement by the party’s Director of Publicity, Mr. Ayo Fadaka,  said “we call on those members of the House of Assembly who earlier decamped to the Labour Party, LP, to take a leap of honour back to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and they will always be welcomed. We are certain that with the benefit of hindsight they have since discovered that they were taken for a ride as the fundamental promises dangled before them have now been shattered.

The need to make this clarion call on all men of conscience in the Labour Party becomes imperative in view of the recent decamping by Mr Yele Omoguwa, erstwhile Commissioner of Works in the Labour Party government of Governor Mimiko to the Peoples Democratic Party.

“We are of the opinion that the growth and development of our State should be of greater importance to politicians that are committed to the wellbeing of the people and as such must be ready to sacrifice anything for this patriotic ideal. It is pertinent to underscore the fact that positions men hold today may be ephemeral if it does not afford them the opportunity to make a difference in their society and this will rather attract opprobrium to their person.

It is needless to state that the generality of the people have since seen through the gimmick of the Mimiko administration which is essentially falsehood and needless propaganda.

The people now know that the various contracts awarded by this administration are designed to fleece the State and not to provide service, thus it is just the time for those that value their names and reputation to take a walk from this government now that they can still salvage them, every politician with an eye on the future must realize that it is an unwise venture to continue to get on the wrong side of history at a time like this, it is more honorable to keep ones’ dignity than to profit from lucre.”
