THE apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, may sanction some of its prominent members, including the Vice President-General, Chief Enechi Onyia, and Chief Oyibo Chukwu, for opposing the organization’s recent endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan for the 2011 election.

Enugu State Chairman of Ohanaeze, Chief O.A.U. Onyema, who dropped the hint while briefing reporters in Enugu Monday, urged the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the body to immediately set up a disciplinary committee to try those who were opposed to the endorsement of the president’s ambition, saying rather than go on the pages of newspapers to canvass their opinion, those who did not agree with the decision ought to have followed Ohanaeze’s channel of communication.

He said: “We’ve observed the uncanny statements credited to some of our leaders, including Elechi Onyia and Oyibo Chukwu, opposing the endorsement of Jonathan by Ohaneze. The endorsement was all embracing and we don’t expect anybody to appear on the pages of the newspaper castigating such action. The attitude of those opposing the decision smacks of gross indiscipline and we are going to use them as an example to those who are still thinking to tow similar lines.

“If anybody feels aggrieved over the decision, we have channels of communication in Ohanaeze and not to start castigating our leaders on the pages of the newspapers.  Even when some of them were in the meetings where the decision was taken, they still went ahead to say all manner of things.”
