Senate President, David Mark yesterday in Abuja sprayed the Falcons with US$150,000 (about N22m) for their recent triumph at the African Women Championship in South Africa.

The Falcons beat Equatorial Guinea 4-2 to win sixth AWC title.”We are showing our little appreciation today because you have made us proud as a nation,” said Mark.

“Please do not allow pride to affect your present achievement. The team should remain humble and continue to work hard so that they can make Nigeria proud at the Women’s World Cup in Germany.”

“We are overwhelmed by the reception accorded us by the Senate President,” the Super Falcons coach, Eucharia Uche.
“This has further energised us to work very hard and be ready for the World Cup in Germany next year because we can’t afford to let Nigeria down.

“We thank the senate president and the entire country for having faith in us and for their support too.”

The Super Falcons are still hoping to get a presidential reward when they meet President Goodluck Jonathan next month.

The team will leave Nigeria on Monday night to play an international friendly against 2011 World Cup hosts Germany on 26 November.
Only 18 players and eight officials will travel to Germany for the friendly regarded as key to the team’s preparation ahead of the 2011 Fifa Women’s World Cup.
