WARRI—TRADITIONAL rulers in Isokoland in Delta State yesterday advised politicians against making statements capable of inciting another ethnic unrest in the state, just as they drummed up support for Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan  to continue as governor representing the South Senatotial district of the state.

According to a statement, the royal fathers noted that the build up to the governorship re-run election should not be used to foment trouble by desperate politicians adding that their colleagues from across the state should prevail on their subjects on the need for peace.

The statement was signed by His royal Highnesses Okpuzo Inana, the Odiologbo of Owhe; Ovrawah Omogha, the Odiologbo of Oleh; Udogri I. , the Ovie of Uzere and A.U. Ogbogbo, the Ovie of Ozoro kingdoms and all other royal fathers from Isokoland.

They contended that there had been tension in the march towards 2011 and recently the annulment of Delta State Governorship election of 2007 which was being given an ethnic colouration by some politicians.

“The various utterances and statements in the media are not in the interest of peace, political stability and economic development of the state,” they said, noting that Delta South which produced the governor should be allowed to retain the seat.

The royal fathers said further: “Delta South which was producing the governor for the first time, should be allowed to retain the seat so as to remove the feeling of marginalization of the minorities of the state. The economic contribution from South Senatorial Zone should not be taken for granted.”

They therefore enjoined their colleagues in other parts of the state and well meaning Deltans to advise their subjects, no matter how highly placed, to guard against statements capable of inciting another ethnic unrest in the state.
