Just last week, the NFF hired a new coach for the senior national football team. It is the first achievement of the organisation as it regains its legitimacy via FIFA’s intervention. Let me congratulate NFF on coming alive.
I have observed the surge of former footballers into the bowel of this new NFF. Actually, these former footballers have been shouting about their desire to possess the FEDERATION.
Although this has not been accomplished, yet the injection of a heavy dosage of this group as coaches and technical committee members must be a balm. Since they are very large in number, I hope NFF will find enough accommodation. for them. It is not correct to assume, however, that the target of a retired footballer must be to seek employment at NFF.
Having played a game or participated in a sport is a sign of endowment with the skills of the sport. It does not equip such a person with the required epistemology or even technical guidance of others, without the requisite professional education and training. All former athletes including former footballers should aim at professional education and training if they desire leadership roles in their sports.
NFF must inject sports scientists into its Technical Committee. Definitely, the input of a sports scientist cannot be ignored for its effective scientific guidance of players.
