Jega condemns election violence

NATIONAL Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega yesterday in Ibadan, expressed serious concern over violence that always characterizes election in the country.

He assured all Nigerians that the commission would give account of every kobo given to it and would use the money with all integrity so that we achieve credible election come 2011.

Though, he said the electoral body had met all the security agencies to ensure success of the exercise, he called on all the traditional rulers across the country to prevail on their subjects not to allow themselves to be used as tool for violence.

According to him, the problem we have as a country is impunity, adding that people break the Law and get away with it.

He vowed that the commission would ensure that all electoral offenders are prosecuted as the electoral body would provide all necessary evidences against them.

To avoid this, he said just about six weeks ago, he urged the National Assembly to go back to the election.
