Activities at Alakija Motor Park were disrupted yesterday when a team of touts, popularly called agbero within the office of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, seized some motorcycles belonging to members of the Motorcycle Association of Lagos State, MOALS, and barred  them from using the park.

The heated argument which followed climaxed in a bloody clash that left many wounded, while others were left with tattered clothes.

Those who were not actively involved in the fight kept themselves busy, flinging motorcycles to the ground and forcing bystanders and passengers to scamper for safety.

Efforts to get the leader to comment on the matter proved abortive. But some of the Okada riders who spoke, lamented the ill-treatment they get in the hands of NURTW which is gradually taking total control of MOALS.

The battle, they said, started the previous day when some MOALS’ members refused to buy ticket on the ground that the forthcoming NURTW Alakija branch chairmanship election must first hold so as to ensure that the incoming Chairman will respect the autonomy of MOALS.

This, however, left an Okada rider mercilessly beaten. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, MOALS has called on the Lagos State Government to come to their rescue by checkmating the activities of park touts which they said have gone out of hand.
