PDP planning to turn Nigeria into one party state – Group

By Chris Ochayi

ABUJA— Some youths organisations yesterday raised an alarm that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, purported gentleman agreement on zoning arrangement was a ploy designed by a powerful clique to turn Nigeria into a one-party state, and with intent to continue to hold on to power and perpetually oppress the people.

The youths, who warned that never in this struggle would they allow PDP constitution to subvert the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, however, resolved that any attempt to foist any leader on Nigeria under the guise of zoning would be resisted.

Arising from a 2-day meeting convened by the President, Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, in Abuja, which was attended by other youth leaders from across the six geo-political zones, said the only zoning arrangement acceptable today was that power should be zoned to the younger generation.

They collectively agreed that those repositioning themselves to benefit from the purported zoning arrangement were still the same older generation who had, through their misuse of instrument of power in the past, retarded the wheel of the nation’s progress, resulting in impoverishing the people.
